Meet ben Broughton

Q: What is your name and what is the name of your business?
A: Ben Broughton with Real Estate at Copper Mountain

Q: When did your business open and what does it sell?
A: I started selling real estate here at Copper in 2005, and opened this office in 2012.

Q: Where did you grow up?
A: I grew up in Ashland, VA just outside of Richmond, then attended George Mason University near Washington DC. After a short stint living on the Outer Banks of North Carolina I moved to Copper in 1999.

Q: What brought you to Copper Mountain? How long have you been here?
A: I came to Copper for what was supposed to be one ski season back in 1999, learned quickly that the truism "Come for the winters, stay for the summers" was incredibly accurate. Almost 25 years later and I'm still amazed that I have the good fortune to live and work in such an amazing place.

Q: When you aren’t running your business, what do you like to do?
A: I only half-jokingly say that I retired fresh out of college when I moved to Summit County. Over the years I've spent my free time trying almost every outdoor activity we have to offer here in Summit. These days I spend my winters snowboarding here at Copper, or skinning around the backcountry to access the surrounding peaks. In the summers you're likely to find me out on a river enjoying my raft or kayak. I've been incredibly fortunate to enjoy some of the West's most challenging whitewater over the years, and look forward to it each spring.

Q: Who is your favorite sports team?
A: I've always enjoyed baseball, whether it was playing as a kid or coaching my sons Tucker and Christian during their childhoods. I'm a diehard Atlanta Braves fan, when I was growing up near Richmond, Virginia my family went to many home games of the local AAA affiliate Richmond Braves. In fact my grandfather was a host family for players of the team, and I met several future Atlanta Braves players passing through his home.

Q: What do you love most about being a part of the Copper Mountain community?
A: I love the many opportunities we have to be involved in shaping the future of our resort and community. I've been fortunate enough to be elected to the Metro District, Resort Association, and my HOA boards over the years, and I find it to be a very fulfilling and exciting appointment. We're just small enough that if you want to join a board or committee there's usually space, but large enough that those choices can have a real measurable impact on Copper Mountain.

Q: What is your favorite run on the mountain?
A: We like to start almost every day in the office with a quick "Board Meeting" on Rosi's Run, taking full advantage of the early access Fast Tracks pass we purchase.

Q: Powder day or bluebird day?
A: Tough call, love 'em both. The very best days are the ones you wake up to bluebird skies after a foot of fresh snow overnight. Most of which has preferably fallen after the groomers have made their passes.
