Oct. 16, 2026 – Week in review & Ahead
Winter Preparations and a Week of Community Connections
Week in review: October 10–16, 2026 & Looking ahead: October 17–23, 2026
Winter preparations moved forward at Copper this week, colder weather brought practical reminders for homeowners, and the 2026 Best of Summit results offer a chance to celebrate businesses and teams right here at Copper. Here is our look back, followed by useful plans for the coming week.
Snowmaking begins at Copper
Copper Mountain confirms that snowmaking began October 15. Its website continues to list November 6 as opening day. For neighbors looking forward to winter, that is an encouraging milestone, but it is preparation rather than an announcement that ski terrain is open.
Before inviting guests for opening weekend, check the resort's current operating information. An opening date does not establish which lifts or trails will be available. Homeowners can also check winter equipment and arrival arrangements.

A weather transition, with a quieter outlook
The week's weather coverage shifted from approaching cold and mountain snow to an improving forecast. Colorado Public Radio's October 12 report described the incoming change. By Friday morning, the National Weather Service's Denver/Boulder discussion called for dry, sunny conditions Friday and mainly dry, warmer weather through the weekend and into the middle of next week. That is a forecast, not a guarantee for every mountain road or driveway.
For homeowners, a quieter stretch offers an opportunity to check exposed plumbing arrangements with a qualified professional, make sure someone can inspect the property during an absence, and review snow-removal contacts. These are seasonal planning suggestions, not evidence that a particular building has a problem.
Check the latest forecast and road information before traveling. Earlier storm advisories should not be treated as current restrictions, and an improving forecast does not certify that roads or walkways are clear.

Celebrating Best of Summit honorees here at Copper
The published 2026 Best of Summit results give us plenty to celebrate close to home.
Copper Mountain Resort won Ski & Snowboard Mountain.
Eagle BBQ won Restaurant. These are two category wins with a direct connection to the place we call home.
Our village restaurants earned additional recognition. JJ's Rocky Mountain Tavern and Sauce on Copper were finalists for Restaurant: Copper Mountain. Forage & Feast, Nowhere Pizza & Pub and Ten Mile Tavern received Top 5 recognition in that category. Nowhere also appeared in the Gluten Free Top 5, while Eagle BBQ earned Top 5 recognition for Barbecue and Wedding Caterer & Bar Services.
Recreation and hospitality were represented, too. Woodward Copper Barn was a finalist for Kids Party Venue, and Copper Creek Golf Course earned Golf Course Top 5 recognition. Copper Mountain Resort was also a finalist for Wedding Venue and Place to Work with more than 20 employees.
Among businesses with Copper locations, Rebel Sports was a finalist for Bike Shop/Rental. Christy Sports was a finalist for Ski & Snowboard Shop/Rental and Top 5 for Boot Fitting Company. SkyRun Vacation Rentals was a finalist in both Vacation Rental Company and Vacation Rental Property Management.
Congratulations to the teams behind these honors. For homeowners welcoming friends and family, the list offers familiar places to celebrate and businesses to get to know. The contest distinguishes winners, finalists and Top 5 honorees; awards for businesses with several locations should not be described as exclusive to their Copper branch.

Looking ahead: October 17–23
Saturday brings opportunities to enjoy neighboring communities. Breck Create lists its Latin Festival Market at the Riverwalk Center on October 17, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with free admission. Food and shopping purchases are separate. The festival also lists free crafts at Ridge Street Arts Square at 11 a.m., noon and 1 p.m. Check the organizer's schedule for participation details before leaving home.

Later Saturday, Mountain In My Mind 4 comes to RMU Breckenridge, 114/112 South Main Street. The organizer lists a free show with doors at 6 p.m., followed by a keynote and screening. The event-specific information says no tickets are needed; attendance is limited by venue capacity. It offers a way to connect with the snowsports community around a film that addresses mental health.

For a quieter evening, Summit County Libraries' calendar lists Silent Book Club at the North Branch in Silverthorne on Tuesday, October 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. The detailed event page was unavailable when checked, so confirm participation requirements with the library before making plans.

If your week includes a Front Range trip, CDOT's I-70 Kipling–Garrison bridge project lists ongoing overnight lane closures Sunday through Thursday, generally 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., through late October. Check COtrip for the conditions affecting your actual departure; this is an ongoing project reminder, not a newly announced full highway closure.

Whether this is a weekend at home or a longer stay, a little preparation leaves more room for the good parts of mountain life: time outside, a visit with neighbors, and something enjoyable on the calendar.
